Is delay in treatment dangerous?

Is 3 months delay in discovery to Mohs treatment cause to worry? SCC on hand. Surgeon is busy and booked 3 months out. Thx.

  1. Hi JustBob, I wanted to see how you're doing and also respond to your question. We've heard a lot about people having to wait to get into a derm appointment, for a skin check and for treatment. This article talks about the wait times and some ideas for ways around them: https://skincancer.net/life-with-skin-cancer/how-long-get-appointment-dermatologist. That being said, it's not unusual from what we've seen to wait three months.
While it's really hard to say whether your specific situation could be dangerous, the likelihood of SCC spreading is fairly low. This article talks about it: https://skincancer.net/types-signs/squamous-cell-carcinoma.

    1. Hi JustBob, we posted your question on our Facebook page and got quite a few responses. Here's the link to the post: https://www.facebook.com/skincancerdotnet/posts/2550096101683615?

There has been some mention of calling your derm office periodically to see if there have been any cancellations. The squeaky wheel gets the grease as it were.

Wishing you luck! - Nina, SkinCancer.net Team

      1. Hi Nina,
I just wanted you to know I appreciate your reply.
The link to the article was helpful.

Fortunately a cancellation has turned into an earlier appointment for Mohs surgery. ~

        Thanks again. bob.

        1. Of course, Bob! I'm really glad you found a cancellation - that's just what some community members mentioned. I hope you'll let us know how it goes.
          Best,
