Should I get a second opinion about clear margins?

I just had a stage 0 Lentigo maligna melanoma in situ surgically excised by my dermatologist. Margins came back clear. Should I go to a cancer center just in case for a second opinion?

  1. I am sorry this is months old and you most likely have already decided on what to do. When my BCC returned 7 years after my first MOHS procedure, in almost exactly the same area, I was lucky enough to never doubt the surgeon who performed the procedure because I used to work for him. I knew it returning had nothing to do with margins not being clear for that reason and, an independent lab confirmed the clear margins. Talk with your doctors office. Ask if the margins were confirmed by a lab. If yes, get the lab results. If no, you will have to decide if you want to go to a cancer center. I did go to a cancer center when mine returned, because it was recommended that I do so. I had excellent care and was released to my dermatologist care 4 months after my surgery.

Whatever you decide, best of luck to you!
