Efudex or not???
Just diagnosed with AK and dermatologist prescribed EFUDEX. Usually I go with my doctor's advice but after researching the horrendous side effects from users, I am in a quandry as to whether it is worth all the pain, discomfort, embarrassment, etc. The AK is on my scalp and I worry about sleeping, upset stomach, and all the other known issues. What if I refuse and what would be the consequences? Are there other less drastic measures (I have had the liquid nitrogen which does eventually do the job.) What should I ask my doc when I see him before I start Efudex? Looking for the wisdom and experience of users of this site.
Talk to your doctor about your concerns. I have used 5FU before and think the results are of greater impact than the side effects, especially if it means preventing future cancer.
I used it on my ears and was able to sleep fine with it but of course everyone has a different body make up.
Lots of people on this forum have used it too so maybe those can share their experiences or opinions.
