More tips for after Efudex treatment

How soon after completing Efudex treatments can you start using products to conceal redness and apply sunscreen?

  1. Hi . Here is a wonderful article from and Efudex veteran about when to begin using sunscreen and skin care products: https://skincancer.net/life-with-skin-cancer/skincare-products-efudex. I hope this helps and that others share their expereinces. Best wishes. - Lori (Team Member)

    1. As a bloke I am lucky I do not have to consider when to re-start the make-up however I had a major additional problem of needing to shave the area being treated because otherwise I simply wouldn't have been able to get the cream onto the facial skin.

But to the original question, I applied Vaseline everywhere I applied the cream starting 24 hours after the last treatment (I was on Tolak 4% once a day which was still incredibly aggressive - think Freddie Kruger within 12 days, went to 15 and had had more than enough torture).

The Vaseline just once per day as a direct "substitute" has been doing wonders since without it I couldn't even eat properly or turn my head properly due to the extreme discomfort without it.

My skin has improved off the charts over the last 8 days since stopping and the shedding has been very consistent. I was concerned the Vaseline might somehow "conflict" with the need to let the skin erode itself away but that has not been the case.

As for sunscreen, since it is Winter here in Australia and I am a nocturnal hermit in any case, I have not used it and to be honest I would baulk at using it at this stage. My intuition - at least in my case off the back of an 8 out of 10 reaction (with 0 being nothing and 10 being the most severe picture you have ever seen) is that I wouldn't be wanting anything at all on my face except the Dermal Therapy shower wash in the daily shower and the Vaseline. Were I living in the US at this time of year I would personally just stay indoors. That is just my perspective - others will say go with the SPF 50.

As for Vaseline, I tried to find the much vaunted Aquafor here in the local pharmacies here in Australia but it is not sold - plain old Vaseline is the closest from what I can gather (I could get it at certain private vendors with a high price tag but I prefer to get anything like that through pharmacy chains)

      1. Hi . Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm glad you're healing well and that Vaseline has made you more comfortable. I have used it for burns and it's worked wonders. Stay safe and healthy! - Lori (Team Member)
