From Misdiagnosed to Lip Cancer

I never in a million years would have thought that I would be having to treat skin cancer…. Especially on my lips!

It’s terrifying!

Lip cancer diagnosis after second opinion

I had very dry, cracked lips for over 2 years. I tried all the lip balm I could find. My PCP told me to just keep using lip balm or Vaseline, so I did. I got no relief, so finally went to a dermatologist. She told me the same thing. So, I decided to get a second opinion.

That was the best thing I could have done. She immediately said, “You’ve had this for OVER TWO YEARS?” She did a biopsy and it was the beginning of my treatment with Fluorouracil.

Unbearable treatment pain

At first, I thought she overdramatized how it would look and feel, but as the treatment went on, it got so painful and looked awful. I could never have imagined that I would look this gross or feel this bad. It’s traumatic!

Praying for good news

I just want to cry all the time and wonder what is to come. I’m on day 11 of a two-week treatment. My follow-up appointment is in 2 weeks. I just pray that I get good news and I don’t have to repeat treatment or even worse have surgery.
