Efudex treatment

I am on Day 18 of a 28 day course of treatment with this chemo cream, can someone tell me if this is a normal reaction I'm not sure whether to continue using it x

  1. Hi there! Unfortunately, we cannot provide medical advice for your own safety, so I would ultimately advise you to check in with your doctor to make sure you're having a normal reaction to this treatment. From what I've read from our community members who have used Efudex, redness is very common. Here is a link to our topical chemotherapy hub that has a lot of great articles about Efudex side effects and other things to expect during and after treatment: https://skincancer.net/topical-chemotherapy-guide. I hope this helps! Please keep me posted on how the rest of your treatment goes. -Alexa (SkinCancer.net moderator)

    1. I stopped the Efudex treatment on Day 19 - I started having stomach upsets and headaches and my face was hurting too much - I'm now on Day 3 of Recovery and nothing much has changed but I believe that's to be expected. I'm using Aquaphor healing ointment which is like thick Vaseline and this helps a lot with the burning, itchiness and soreness.

      1. I'm sorry to hear about the side effects you experienced. It sounds like stopping treatment was the best option for you. It's been some time now since you provided this update, how is your recovery going? Hope you're feeling some relief! -Alexa (SkinCancer.net moderator)

    2. I'm feeling much better but still a bit sore - scaly and bleeding in patches - not sure whether it's best to keep my skin dry or continue using vanicream moisturiser?
