Hardest part of surgery?

No part of skin surgery is good, but what part is hardest for you? For me, it’s the mapping—where they draw out what they are about to cut. It gets me every time. Do the shots seem worse? The cauterizing? The actual cutting?

  1. I think all of it stinks. The anticipation gets me every time. I get exactly what you mean. I always think they map out a much bigger area than I think they should. I get the clear margins and all that, but it always blows my mind how much they take.

    1. Agreed! The first time I had a mole removed I wanted to pass out when I saw the large area she planned to cut. It totally took my breath away.

  2. For me it's the waiting. Just hoping they got it all, and waiting to see if you have to go again.

    1. I understand that too. I had surgery a week ago and realized it ain’t over until it’s over—the margins are clear. The good times just keep coming. The anxiety of it all.

  3. Had BCC removed from the outer edge of my foot 4 weeks ago. The excision left a huge hole that couldn't be stitched as there wasn't enough skin. It was slow to heal so now I am having compression bandages fitted twice a week. All this for a tiny lesion that was barely visible. Like many on this forum I have had removals of every type but this was definitely the worst. Don't forget to put sun lotion on your feet!

    1. This does sound bad. I am sorry you are having to deal with this. And I appreciate you sharing with us. We may or may not have had surgery on our foot, but otherwise, we can identify with your struggles. Take care of yourself!
