Head and face Mohs

I had my 1st Basal Cell removal at 45 on my cheek under the rim of my glasses. Skip forward 25 years and I now have had 12 Mohs, Squamous and Basal Cell. The most extensive was the top of my head from forehead to 3/4 of the top of my head. 2 weeks later my daughter found another spot about .5 cm from the incision line but to the left. Another extensive 5 hour 3 layer Mohs. I had no hair for about 4 months. I have had several on my face. "You have pink skin", your body makes cancer cells. 2 more Mohs to go this year. My incision got infected near my ear and caused me to get
Minere's Disease. My wonderful surgeon left the practice and had a fill in to check the sutures. Please use sunscreen!!! I have never had a 1 layer Mohs, always 2 or more layers. I grew up with a pool in New England...the baby oil results plague me.

  1. Good luck on your future Moh’s surgery’s.

I’m having my first Moh’s on my nose next week. When I had Moh’s on my arm it was two layers. I’m hoping the one on my face is not deep, it’s been peeling in that spot for years and changed more over the past year.

Hopefully you will catch a break soon. My mom has multiple skin cancers like you, every time she goes to the dermatologist there’s at least one biopsy positive for skin cancer.

    1. sending you lots of positive vibes and well wishes for your upcoming surgery. Please let us know how you’re doing. We’ll be thinking of you💚. All my best, Julie (team member)

  2. Thanks Julie! I had my Moh’s surgery and they went in three times to get it all. I have 1 1/2 inch scar on my nose. I’m wearing scar pads at night. The scar is really lumpy right now, a little swollen & still red, hopefully it will smooth out soon.

    1. I’m glad your surgery is over and they got it all! The healing phase can be challenging in its own right. Some of our community members have shared their tips for reducing scar visibility https://skincancer.net/life-with-skin-cancer/reducing-scar-visibility. I hope your recovery continues to go smoothly. All my best, Julie (team member)
