It started out with what looked like a prickly heat rash on my inner legs and thighs. For four years it was misdiagnosed until the nurse practitioner at my dermatologist's office asked if I wanted to do a biopsy to ease my mind. I had been to so many doctors including an oncologist and everyone missed it. Sure enough, after four years, the biopsy came back with a diagnosis of squamous cell carcinoma. I was shocked, never expected it to look like a rash. By this time it had spread to my face, scalp and chest. I went to Boston at Brigham & Woman's and had Mohs. The doctors there found a doctor in Rhode Island where I live, and they worked together. I was so relieved.
I went through, red and blue light radiation, cryotherapy, mohs, and chemo creams (5FU) which really took its toll on me. I can say that after six years I finally have it under control. I see my doctor every three months and receive whatever treatment I may need in case the precancerous lesions come back. I have learned to live with it better now and praying for no more spreads, just spot treatment! My lesson is you know your body, be proactive. Don't wait four years when you know something isn't right. Check your body for anything that doesn't look right and have it checked. And if they say it's nothing and you feel it is, be persistent! Thinking of all of you, sending lots of love!❤️
