Mohs Surgery Wounds

Does anyone know if Mohs Surgery wounds should be closed with stitches or left to heal with an open wound? This concerns a wound the size of a quarter on my upper arm.

  1. I cannot give specific advice as to whether you should have an open wound or one that is stitched. I imagine that is for you and your doctor to talk about. That being said, I did have an open wound after my melanoma surgery, which was the size of a quarter on my upper arm. It healed well after a short time and has only minimal scarring. Hope this helps in some way. Scott skincancer.net team member

    1. I kept the wound moist so that the dressing would not stick. I put on new dressing every day and kept everything clean. I made sure to not sleep on and put pressure on the area. I kept it covered and didn't bathe. I had stitches to close the top and bottom half of the wound but the middle was left open because my skin would not stretch enough to close. This was not Mohs, but a melanoma surgery. Scott skincancer.net team member

    2. That was the doctor's decision. Scott skincancer.net team member
