Mole changing colors ever not a big deal?

I have a mole that sticks out and is ugly. I noticed recently it’s a different color than before. It used to be more pink and now it’s a dark brown/purple? Is this always skin cancer or can it be for another reason? Thanks!
It only lets me do one so this is before and what it’s like now will be in the comments I guess

  1. I am so glad you are being vigilant in staying aware of changes in moles and other spots. While every spot is not skin cancer, it is a good idea to have your skin examined by a dermatologist if you are noticing new spots or changes to spots and moles you have had for a long time.

I am including a few articles that address self-exams and how to note important changes and irregularities.

This one lists the ABCDEs of melanoma. I use it during skin checks to note changes before contacting my dermatologist for a skin exam.
