Should we get a second opinion?

Hi my husband has a lesion on his lower back that looks very suspicious. He has shown it to our GP twice and told it is nothing to worry about. That it is most likely a build up of protein. The reason I am doubting this is that I went with a lesion to my own GP with a lesion on my face and told it was nothing worry about, four years later it was found to be Basil cell carcinoma.
What my husband has looks to me like melanoma, am I just being silly or should we get a second opinion? Suspicious lesion

  1. Hi . Welcome to the community! We are not medical experts, so I can't comment on whether the spot might be cancer but, as you learned, it's important to remember that primary care doctors are not skin experts.
Has your husband ever seen a dermatologist? Yearly skin checks are a good idea anyway and are often covered by insurance. Could he schedule a skin check with a dermatologist and, during the appointment, point out this spot? Best to play it safe and rule out anything harmful. Keep us posted, if you don't mind. Warm wishes. - Lori (Team Member)
