My Story

I am 72 years old and about 7 years ago I noticed a spot on my cheek which didn't go away. After an examination by my GP it was cut out and found to be non-malignant. Since then I have had 6 more surgeries. When I was a child we never used sun tan cream or hats. I was a salesman for many years and cars didn't have tinted glass and several of my scars on the same cheek were caused by this. I now have regular checks and all is good. My advice: don't despair but act as quickly as possible to get examined.

  1. Good advice you have! Thanks for sharing your story.

    1. I appreciate your perspective on life and I thank you for sharing your story with us. I understand about growing up without taking precautions regarding the sun. We just didn't know much or were not aware of the dangers. How are you doing these days? Scott skincancer.net moderator

      1. All good Scott. I had to use efudex cream on my nose recently for a flare up which made me look like a Halloween creature but it worked well and I can appear in public again, after 3 weeks. Regular checks is essential.

        1. Thank you for the update. So happy that your Efudex treatment got you good results. I agree that regular check ups are essential. What are some other things that you do to help prevent skin cancer? Scott skincancer.net moderator

      2. I think this is great advice for everyone. Time is important and acting is critical when it comes to skin cancer. I don't think waiting around for something to just go away is a very good plan. Thank you for sharing. Scott skincancer.net moderator
