Support groups

I am dealing with my first skin cancer, a basal cell, on my face. I have anxiety about my Mohs procedure as well as even more fear about recurrence. Are there any virtual/Zoom support communities focused on skin cancer? While I appreciate reading these forums, I know I find a lot of relief from talking directly with others.

  1. I think you make a valid point about the importance of real interaction. I have gone to support groups—some Zoom. I found them all through the American Cancer Society. I called their 1800 number, and a representative helped me get connected to resources in my area. Also, it might help to be connected with a mentor. Free! i have a mentor, and I would not give him up. Period. I wrote an article recently on support resources and listed a few options that are available to anyone for free. I will tag someone on here who can perhaps direct you to that article, Scott. Counseling is also something I recommend. There are counselors who specialize in health issues such as skin cancer. Thinking of you, and hope this helps!

    1. I appreciate your post about support groups. I am going to give this some thought. I know that having real time
support can make a real difference. When is your Mohs procedure? Scott skincancer.net moderator

      1. Thoughts about Mohs

        1. thank you for your replies. I appreciate your thoughtfulness and concern. My family has been touched by skin cancer before, but I'm new to these forums. The discussions have been so helpful to help me realize we're not alone in our very real worries.

My Mohs surgery on my face is next week, but I was diagnosed in December. It's been a rough wait. I will try reaching out to the American Cancer Society. I think that's a very good idea too.

          1. Feel to message me anytime via our site messaging system. We are here for you. Please let us know how the surgery goes and let's keep up a dialogue as you are healing up and moving forward. Scott skincancer.net moderator

          2. Keep us posted on what you learn from the ACS. I’m hoping that is helpful for you in addition to this site. There are lots of resources out there and most are free. Yay! I’m sending my best wishes for a smooth surgery and speedy recovery!
