The sun is not the issue?

Has anyone told you that sun exposure is not the cause of your skin cancer? Recently, a friend sent me a video from an alleged doctor who stated the sun is not the cause of skin cancer. I did not know how to respond or what to think.

Is the belief that the sun and skin cancer are unrelated just an uneducated view, or it it more?

  1. ...I have literally only ever heard that UV exposure (sun and tanning beds) was the cause of my skin cancer. I think I would have to question the doctor's credentials at that point. Heredity has something to do with it, but most everyone I have ever discussed this with has concurred--UV exposure and past sunburns.

    1. That makes sense to me. That is consistent with what I know.

    2. I have heard the same thing that some folks may be predisposed to skin cancer genetically. I would never use this as a reason to disengage regarding good skin care practices. If it runs in the family, then I think that is all the more reason to be cautious with sun exposure. Scott skincancer.net moderator
