Merkel Cell Carcinoma Diagnosis

Had what looked like a cyst on my right cheek just below eye. Dermatologists froze the spot but when the scab wore off, the cyst was still there. Biopsy revealed Merkel cell carcinoma. So it's a rare cancer that a lot of doctors can miss or dismiss as a cyst.

It's a very dangerous cancer that can metastasize to distant areas very quickly. Generally, when removing the Merkel cell, a lymph node biopsy is performed to see if it has metastasized. In my case, it was not needed. Brain scan and PET scan is the standard procedure. Mine were all negative but still five weeks of radiationto the area where the cancer was removed.
