Making the Most Out of Your Dermatologist Visit
You go to the dentist once a year for a checkup, so why not the dermatologist? Since the condition of your skin can be in a constant state of change, it’s important to get regular examinations not only for your health, but also for your peace of mind.
Speak up about skin changes
When you go to the dermatologist, try to make the most out of your visit. Use it as an opportunity to ask about any spots or areas of skin that you’re concerned about. Also consider coming prepared with a few skin-related questions that you don’t know the answers to.
Learning what to look for with skin changes
I recently took a trip to Toms River, NJ to visit my dermatologist, Mark Mazak, and got a face and scalp examination. Since my family has a history of skin cancer, I often worry that I’m not doing enough to protect and care for my skin. But after my visit, I feel assured and more knowledgeable on what to do, as well as what to look out for, when it comes to my skin.
Helpful answers from the dermatologist
In this vlog, I capture my visit, and show my doctor giving informative answers to the following six questions:
- What amount of SPF is enough?
- What should people be looking for on their skin?
- Can a cancerous mole be found anywhere?
- What is the average age of skin cancer patients?
- Has the popularity of tanning lowered the average age of skin cancer patients?
- Are “base tans” from tanning beds a healthy way to avoid sunburn?
If you’re curious about any of these questions, be sure to watch the video above! And also remember, skin evaluations don’t have to be done just once a year at the doctor. You can perform regular, at home self-examinations too.
