I am well today
My head hurts. My forehead is swollen. I had MOHS on my scalp 2 days ago for Basal Cell Carcinoma I found quite by accident 2 months before my scheduled skin check.
@myhoney…I wish I could tell you without a doubt that the fatigue many experience is short-lived, but there is no normal with Efudex. It seems we all experience varying side effects and varying degrees of each.
Thank you for an informative piece on this treatment. I have recurring basal cel for the past 15 years. Many surgeries and I keloid. I tried Imiquimod and had a reaction (extreme fatigue, mental fogginess) so we stopped that. I was given Efudex. I tried it for less than two weeks on my shoulder. I was again exhausted, ambivalent…

Hi @Prettypoet43, I’m sorry to hear you’re dealing with a potential skin cancer. Have you had a chance to get in touch with a derm? While these images should not be used to diagnose or rule out skin cancer, I wanted to share them in case they provide some insight: https://skincancer.net/images/. I really hope you’re able to see a derm soon and…
In 2014 I had melanoma removed from my chest. The next year I underwent a lateral neck dissection, scapula tip harvest and lower mandiblectomy. 2016 I had melanoma. 2018 I had kidney cancer. Today I am sore from […]
@BHPen99, your words sound all too familiar. It is a constant struggling to deal with both the physical symptoms and treatments, and the mental stress. You reminded me of some stats we reported from our annual survey here: https://skincancer.net/infographic/2019-ia-survey/. I think the term chronic does help people understand that skin cancer can…
Wow, @Stefwithanf, what luck! I’m so glad you didn’t have to ride that rollercoaster again this time. Check in anytime, especially if you feel nerves about any new spots or your next check. I hope you’ll hear the same next time!

I’m Fine! Learning about Efudex
First time poster here. I have an odd looking red spot on my face that started from a shaving cut a couple years ago. It seems to always get irritated when I shave, even though I try to go light over it. I went to a derma about a year ago and the tech suggested I have it burned off. It seemed to heal ok, but not quite 100%. Now its…
Worried I might have skin cancer. Have a lump on my left cheek.
Thanks for your question, @jthorens. Unfortunately I can’t answer it, as I haven’t/won’t use Efudex (I gave my reasons why in the article.). Perhaps some of our other community members can jump in to respond. Judy, SkinCancer.net Moderator
Love this forum and the help it gives everyone.
In the UK we have the NHS, a fantastic benefit to everyone but it has long gone past it’s original design and needs drastic overhaul. In my area, if you are diagnosed with actinic keratosis, basal cell or squamous cell carcinomas you are first directed to a plastic surgeon rather than a…
@jthorens…great question. I have not been prescribed Efudex for spots that have been biopsied and identified as basal. All of my treatments have been prescribed after my dermatologist points out numerous actinic keratoses on my skin. Usually these spots are clustered together or cover a large area like my chest. These are precancerous spots that…
