Concerning mark on scalp

Hi guys, I’m new here.

I discovered a marking on my head last spring while shaving, and made an appointment with my GP. He had a look and told me to keep an eye on it, but didn’t seem concerned.

I’ve been keeping an eye on it since, and note it hasn’t really changed shape, but still concerns me all the same. I think it’s partly because I’m not sure what it actually is.

Has anyone seen anything similar? It’s the pink/red mark with the purple inside.

I used sun beds from age 15 until around 22, and then realised how stupid I had been in using them and haven’t since. I do enjoy being in the sun and sunbathing, but I am growing increasingly worried about skin cancer as time goes on, from my stupidity from age 15-22.

Thanks in advance everyone.

  1. ...Welcome! We are so glad you are a part of our community!

I am glad you approached your doctor about the spot--you are being proactive, and that is super-important. Keep it up! I was a tanner, too. I know the concern you are feeling. If we could only get that time back, right?

I will say that a dermatologist can tell you more and is much more likely to go ahead and suggest a biopsy. While your GP can do a biopsy, a dermatologist is more apt to want to rule out skin cancer right away. If you have kept an eye on it but are still concerned, I suggest you make an appointment with a dermatologist.

I am including an article on biopsies that might answer some questions you may have about them.
