Electron Beam Therapy for squamous cell carcinoma on lower lip

Hello, I am new to this site. I was diagnosed with scc a month ago. I was scheduled for Mohs surgery a couple of weeks ago, my Dermatologist said that the deficit on my lower lip after the surgery would be extensive and he suggested that I look into EBT radiation therapy. I have decided that is the way i should go. Has anyone had experience with with method? How do they know how big the tumor is just by a physical exam? Will they do a scan? I have read about the simulation and how the process works. I was just wanting to hear from a fellow scc patient. Thank you so much.

  1. Hi . Welcome to the community! That is a big decision, considering the location of the squamous cell carcinoma. I am glad you are doing some research and gathering input. I have no experience with electron beam therapy, so I hope you hear from others in the community. While you wait for responses, I thought I would share this article that mentions it: https://skincancer.net/life-with-skin-cancer/radiation-treatment. I am not sure how active the author is in the community, but maybe she will respond with some of her own experiences if you tag her in a question on the article. Keep us posted if you don't mind. Best of all wishes. - Lori (Team Member)

    1. , thank you for your note and the link. I will keep you posted on how it all goes. I know I’m scheduled for at least 30 sessions of radiation and those should start around the 24th of June.
