Do you have battle scars?

Do you have visible skin cancer scars? If so, how does that make you feel? Are you self-conscious? Has anyone asked?

I have scars on my bottom lip from 4 shave excision surgeries. At first, I felt like people were looking, but now I just try to tell myself, no one notices. I also wear red lipstick to draw attention to my lipstick and not my lip scars. I have no idea if that really works.

More recently, I have a pretty sizable scar on my chest that is visible in a swimsuit or low cut blouse.

  1. I have white scars from cryosurgery around my lips and various places all over my body. My melanoma scar is on my left upper arm. It has become gradually less noticeable over the years. There are two on my neck. The only one that bothers me is the one just above and between my collar bones. I feel like it is the most obvious.

The only scars that have drawn comments are the ones around my mouth from cryo. I have been told I have something white on my mouth and asked if I have powdered sugar on my mouth. That one made me laugh a bit, but still...

    Your lipstick trick is great!

    1. Thanks for sharing. Honestly, it helps to hear others understand.

I’m still believing red lipstick draws the eye away from my lip scars. And tonight I thought it also gives me some much-needed color now that I’m really out of the sun.
