Hair from a mole equals healthy mole, correct?

I finally have an appointment on May 9th for my suspicious mole. I don't have insurance or a pcp (I've always been generally healthy). In July of 21 a mole on my back swelled a bit, and came off. The mole turned into a scab and healed "back" as the pic below. I honestly DO NOT think it's melanoma, but I have since developed a large swollen lymph node in my neck. (I also had covid in September and know it can cause chronic swollen nodes).

Anywho...I don't want to risk it because I know that it very well could be.

My question is, do you see the hair growing from it? Everything I've read online said if it were infact melanoma it would not grow hair and/or be in very early stages. Can anyone back this?

Also...if it were in early stages then my lymph node is likely from lingering covid rather then from this mole, due to the hair?

Ever since I made an appointment with a dermatologist for a skin check I've actually been more worried. Hard to explain. I'm half wondering if I'm freaking over nothing and half worried something would come from it.

Thank you for listening to me ramble even though I'm sure anyone on this forum has bigger issues then I. Wishing everyone health and happiness.

  1. ...I am so sorry you are dealing with this, but I am glad you were able to secure an appointment to get it checked out. I know what a relief it is to cross that hurdle.

I had a melanoma (dark, oddly-shaped mole) removed in 2007. I can't say for sure that it had hair growing from it or not. Things moved very quickly once a friend told me she thought it looked suspicious, and I didn't get photos of it. Whether or not yours has hair growing from it, it's still a good idea to have it checked out. Every mole won't turn out to be skin cancer, but many do and they come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. I am including an article that explains some characteristics that make a spot suspicious.

I don't think you are freaking out or worrying for nothing--you are being proactive, and that is important.
