Has anyone tried tele-med or tele-health with regard to skin cancer? What was your experience like?

Tele-med seems to become bigger and bigger these days. What has been your experience? Were you satisfied? What worked and what didn't work well?

  1. I have not for skin cancer but did for another skin-related ailment or just after 1st lockdown. The dermatologist asked me to send a picture of the skin and then we had a video interview. She said that "maybe" I had such and such thing and gave me medication in case I had it. It turns out I didn't have it. Whereas in office they seem to be much more precise. I would think online would be fine for exchanging information, discussing biopsy results etc, but not for skin examination. At present dermascopy is used in at least some dermatology offices, to have a notion as to if a new bump or spot is cancerous. That is not yet possible online, to my knowledge. Yet if it is impossible to get to an equipped dermatologist the online option must be better than nothing, possibly linked to one of the new skin cancer related apps which record evolution of skin bumps and spots.

    1. Your response is helpful. Thank you for sharing. I agree that it's better than nothing, but can't replace an in-person visit. Scott skincancer.net team member

  2. Had several telemedicine appointments for my scc. Sent phone photos of it to the docs and also a video appointment before going in for excision. Worked really well and was glad to be able to do it. Was in the worst part of the Omicron COVID surge so was glad to be able to minimize hospital visits.

    1. ...I am so glad you were able to communicate so effectively without the need for repeat office visits.Telemedicine has been really great tool in the last two years. I hope the healing process has gone smoothly and quickly for you! April, SkinCancer.net, Moderator
