What does "in transit" melanoma mean?

From a community member on Facebook: Can you explain the difference between reccurrence vs “ in transit “ melanoma? I’ve found some articles on the internet but thought I’d see if you had some information to share. Thank you.

  1. This is a great question. While we do not have an article dedicated to the subject, this one talks about the meaning of "in transit" when it comes to melanoma: https://skincancer.net/diagnosis/spreading-lymph-node. It is used to describe how far the cancer has traveled. It is also defined in this article about Merkel cell, about 2/3 down the page.

Has anyone here heard the word "in transit" to describe their or someone they know's skin cancer?
