Attentiveness, erudition, analytical mind, that is of course the main thing. Empathy in relation to the patient is certainly a good thing. But it is better to have a doctor who is cold-blooded, emotionless, but a highly intelligent professional who can solve complex problems and provide alternative solutions, not paying attention to our tears, than an empathic, sentimental, smiling doctor, but is unable to give either a competent explanation in medically complex issues, or the right method of treatment, or sound advice, but only standard memorized answers.
