I went to a very young, new dermatologist. Biopsy showed skin cancer. The doctor seemed stressed and his stress carried over to me. He said several things that were true but not helpful. I immediately transitioned my care to a major medical center. Totally different story! Everyone was calm and professional. The doctor said this is what we do—all we do (skin cancer) so we’ve got this. Let us take it from here.
If you have the luxury of time, I would say meet with a doctor to see if it is a good fit. You don’t buy the first car you find. Don’t sign on for treatment with the first doctor. I also tell the scheduling staff—I’m looking for good bedside manner. All of the doctors have been to medical school. The staff will usually pipe up with a recommendation. Don’t be afraid to speak up for what you need!
