How did you find your derm?

    1. I went to a very young, new dermatologist. Biopsy showed skin cancer. The doctor seemed stressed and his stress carried over to me. He said several things that were true but not helpful. I immediately transitioned my care to a major medical center. Totally different story! Everyone was calm and professional. The doctor said this is what we do—all we do (skin cancer) so we’ve got this. Let us take it from here.

If you have the luxury of time, I would say meet with a doctor to see if it is a good fit. You don’t buy the first car you find. Don’t sign on for treatment with the first doctor. I also tell the scheduling staff—I’m looking for good bedside manner. All of the doctors have been to medical school. The staff will usually pipe up with a recommendation. Don’t be afraid to speak up for what you need!

      1. Thanks so much for sharing your experience! I'm sorry to hear you had a stressful first visit to the dermatologist, but I'm glad you were able to find the right care for you after all. Getting a second opinion can be very important in one's health journey. I appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our community and please continue to be such a great advocate for yourself and your health! -Alexa (SkinCancer.net moderator)
