Waiting for Biopsy Results.

I had a biopsy today, of a suspicious sore on my back. The consultant referenced SCC and told me not to worry... But I am!

Let me explain...

I do suffer with health anxiety and for as long as I have had a mobile phone, I have taken photos of suspicious lumps and bumps.

In September 2024, I took a photi of a pimple on my back. It had a yellow crust on it, didn't hurt and because I was dealing with a recurrent Staph infection, I thought it was related to that.

The pimple came and went, but over the last few weeks, the site had become inflamed and sore. Damn I thought, another Staph infection. (Photo enclised)

I went to Urgent Care this morning and they gave me some antibiotics, but the Dr said the sore looked suspicious, and needed to be checked ASAP. Funnily enough I had already made an appointment at my local Mole Scan clinic, later that day.

She took a biopsy of the sore and explained that it could be a SCC, or the site of something completely benign. I should have the results in two weeks.

My question is this... How the hell can someone with health anxiety, not have gotten this checked sooner. It has been 9 months since I noticed it and now I fear I've left it too late...

Is there any advice you can give me please, this is eating me up!

  1. Hi . Waiting can be impossibly difficult, especially for someone with health anxiety. My heart goes out to you. In my experience, the best treatment for that kind of anxiety is to keep busy, super busy. Even though doctors says you'll get results within two weeks, they usually relay them much more quickly if it really is cancer. So, know that a long wait for results is often a good thing. In the meantime, we're here for you whether you need support or a safe place to vent. Please keep us posted. I'll be thinking of you and sending lots of positive thoughts your way. - Lori (Team Member)
