How long to wait until first appointment?

I've got a spot that is very suspicious to me and I'm wondering if waiting two weeks for my appointment is too long? Should I try another doctor or just wait? I haven't seen my dermatologist since 2019, as like many others, I didn't go into the doctor's office in 2020. I have a routine appointment in two weeks, originally scheduled for a full body check. I've called to move it up but no availability.

This is an almost flat, very dark mole. Not large. I have very dry skin so I've often noticed when the skin looks dry on this mole, but my skin really looks dry everywhere so I tried not to think much of it.

The other day it was looking dry and I scratched it and it was like a scab came off. Now there is a wound there and all of the color that was once there is gone, no more dark brown, more of a perfectly round shiny wound where the mole once was.

It bled a little but doesn't hurt at all.

Is two weeks too long to have this checked out?

  1. I am so sorry you are dealing with this. I know the stress of worrying and waiting all too well.

I always go with "when in doubt, get it checked out." If you feel uneasy about waiting, I would suggest you call and see if you can be seen a little earlier. There is certainly nothing wrong with trying. It sounds like you are very familiar with the warning signs and doing a great job checking yourself regulary!

I will certainly keep you in my thoughts as you wait to be seen. Please keep us posted! We are here for you!

I'm on the wait list to be called if anything comes available more quickly.
