Self compassion

The other night I made a big blunder, and then today I just said, you are doing the best you can. Keep walking and do not criticize your actions right now.

I have a big skin cancer appointment on November 11, and as that date gets closer, I see that I’m making errors in my judgment. Are you also self compassionate?

  1. Good for you! It is essential that you are kind, gentle and compassionate to yourself. Essential. Your skin cancer does not define you but it does affect all of you - mind, body, spirit. With a big appointment on the horizon it is understandable that you are "off your game" so to speak. Sending you lots of positives and gentle hugs.

    1. Thank you! I appreciate your supportive and kind words. Glad you also understand the importance of self compassion on a skin cancer journey.

    2. Super kind, you are!!! Scott skincancer.net moderator

  2. I have never really thought if I am too hard on myself or compassionate with myself. I think I am pretty good at getting down on myself. I probably downplay it publicly, but take it hard internally. Scott skincancer.net moderator

    1. Self compassion is a very important concept. Glad this has given you the chance to consider how it plays in your own life.

    2. How does it help you? How does it help you with regard to skin cancer? Scott skincancer.net moderator

  3. I am very hard on myself in a lot of areas of my life. When I’m having a hard time with my skin I try to exhibit self compassion by backing off. For example, I usually expect myself to maintain a pretty strict workout regimen. When I’m upset about my skin, I allow myself to back off, take a break. I take some time off from working out to get through how I’m feeling about my skin and then I resume my workout schedule slowly.

    1. I bounce around. Right now I am on indoor rowing. I do 50-minute rowing classes several times a week. Before that I was on indoor cycling. I tried to maintain 50 miles a week.

    2. very active! Scott skincancer.net moderator

  4. Prior to my last surgery in March, I “commuted” by walking to/from work also. 10 miles a week. Today was my first day back on the commute. I just wore a huge hat and covered myself head to toe. No problem! We’ve got this.
