At Risk for Another Cancer?

I recently had 2 biopsies done The one on my temple is benign yeah! The one on my breast is another BCC margins from excision are clear. Does this mean I am at risk for breast cancer? I didn't ask my doctor I was so busy asking about my next surgery. It's my 2nd surgery at the corner of my eye which makes me very nervous 😕

  1. Hi . Good news about the spot on the temple! But I'm sorry you have to have another surgery in the eye area. And glad the excision margins are clear! The risk factors for skin cancer are different from those for breast cancer. If you're curious about breast cancer risk, I imagine you could consult with a nurse, or ask your doctor when you get a chance. All in all, it sounds like you are doing a wonderful job of advocating for and taking care of yourself. Keep up the good work! So glad to have you here in our community! - Nina, SkinCancer.net Team

    1. Hi, ! I wanted to add my two cents. I’m celebrating with you that the temple biopsy is benign! That’s wonderful news. As far as your BCC on your breast, I’ve recently had the same thing. However, causes of skin cancer (typically over exposure to the sun and tanning beds plus sometimes genetics, for instance) are different than the causes for breast cancer. Skin cancer can show up in any area of your body, although usually more likely where you’ve had sun exposure. You should definitely ask your health care provider this question, but also don’t overthink it. I’ve had skin cancer for 22+ years and (knock on wood) that’s the only kind of cancer I’ve had. Great question - thank you! Judy, SkinCancer.net Moderator

      1. Thanks Nina

Good advice! I will discuss my concerns with my doctor. I think I am just nervous about my next surgery on February 7 😕

    2. Thank you Judy

I have another surgery next week and I am going thru my paranoid phase again!

      1. Wishing you the best for your upcoming surgery - please keep us posted on how it goes! (And know that it's perfectly normal to be nervous - I still get nervous before every appointment, whether it's just a routine checkup, a biopsy, or a surgery.) We'll be thinking of you!
