Has anyone had an experience of treating areas of the scalp?

Good morning all - I am about to start a 4-week course of Efudex on my forehead and also 4 areas on my scalp. I have mid-length hair and am wondering if it would be better (more hygienic) to shave the treatment areas on my scalp. I know how sore and weepy the areas can get, during treatment and the thought of my washing and brushing possible matted hair concerns me. Shaving my scalp or the areas isn’t an issue for me - if I need to do it. It may even feel liberating in this time of COVID lockdown!!! Has anyone had any experience of treating areas of the scalp, keeping hair intact?? Is it more problematic? Thank you all and keep safe.

  1. Hi ,

I believe it's more about preference, but we suggest you ask your doctor and see what they believe may be best! Unfortunately, not many of our members have shared their experience using Efudex on the scalp. I can imagine treating the scalp could be difficult with brushing your hair and washing it. However, according to studies on treating the scalp with liquid nitrogen, it's not necessary to shave the areas on the scalp that are being treated.
