What are your tips for finding a good oncologist?

Share your tips with fellow community members looking for an oncologist! If you haven’t found a good one, what challenges have you faced?

  1. Finding a specialist in any field can sometimes be a challenge depending on the area you live in and the distance you have to travel to reach his/her office. When dealing with skin cancer, I think the best way to start the search is to ask your dermatologist or primary care physician to suggest a trusted oncologist. My first experience with an oncologist was to get a baseline exam following my melanoma diagnosis. The referral came from my dermatologist's office, and I was pleased with the experience as a whole.

This community is a great resource for referrals as well. By posting your area of the country here in the Q&A, you might be able to find someone in your area who has received fantastic luck with a doctor close to you. April, Skincancer.net, Moderator
