How often do you see an oncologist after excision with no other treatment?

  1. I have had 3 excision surgeries on my face. After stitches removed and incision healed I have not had any further treatment

    1. Tamara, that's a great question. I had an excision on my upper arm and no other treatments following the surgery. I did, however, have an initial consult with an oncologist. I don't know too many people who regularly see an oncologist following excisions for melanoma or basal cell carcinomas. The following article may answer some of your questions. https://skincancer.net/basics/health-care-specialists/

      1. After my chest wound was healed, the oncology surgeon transitioned me to the dermatologist. I saw the surgeon 3 x total. Now, I’m back to skin checks with the dermatologist.

        1. Thanks for asking. My skin is good. I could be handling it better, honestly. I messaged with the surgeon today and she’s gonna refer me for counseling with someone who specializes in cancer. I’m not sure why this time around I haven’t just rolled with it. Does that sound familiar to anyone?

        2. I find myself doing better with my diagnoses over the years than at other times. I guess it has to do with the other things going on in my life. I think cumulative stresses and concerns show up in how I manage my skin cancer issues. This is probably typical. Scott skincancer.net moderator
