Skin cancer medication

I have numerous squamous cells constantly and see the dermatologist at Mayo in Jacksonville every two months, which is an 8-hour drive for me. A friend has an uncle that has had numerous skin cancers and is taking a pill called "IVERMECTIN" and has had wonderful results.

I had never heard of this medicine and once I looked it up, I have been getting numerous ads for this. I go back to Mayo in November and will talk to my dermatologist regarding this medication. It is for several items, but it mentions cancer, but doesn't say what type cancer. The man using this says it stopped him getting more cancers and has a close friend that has started on this. You did have to get a prescription for it, but I think you can get it from some pharmacies OTC.

I would like to know if anyone else has heard or tried this medication.

Thanks, Lynda

  1. Hi . Ivermectin is a medication used to treat parasites in people and in animals. It is not an approved or recommended treatment for any cancer, though some people take it anyway in hopes that it will help. I would definitely talk to your doctor first if you are considering it, especially since it has not been reviewed for its safety as a potential cancer treatment.
Here is an article about Ivermectin and cancer from the American Cancer Society that you might find interesting: https://www.cancer.org/cancer/latest-news/what-to-know-about-ivermectin.html. I hope this helps.
