I have been using fluouracil on my lips for two weeks. They are burning, swollen and painful. I am unclear how long it takes to go from the pain to healing.

Hi Pamela, I had the same treatment last month. You're right, Lori, it is isolating. I had to apply the Fluor cream twice a day for 3 weeks during which time I endured the burning and the chronic bleeding. I couldn't go anywhere. My doctor told me of all the places to do this treatment, the lips are the worse, which was validating but at the same time, discouraging. I had no idea I had so many non cancerous skin growths, varrucas, on my lower lip. He said I had at least 20! All I could think of was... get these things off, and each day I was using the treatment, meant that I was that much closer to better health. Today, he said my lip looks really good, but Missy be monitored. It's good and healthy that you're sharing with others which I just now started doing. I think because I was in so much shock at the
diagnosis. The more you share, the more powerful your voice which builds inner confidence and resolve. Prayer helps too.

I am just starting my 4th week since stopping the twice a day for 2 weeks process. I am finally able to go outside the house and be a real person again. I agree this process really hits you hard mentally as well as the physical pain. I have done this 4 times and every time I think I am ruining my face. But each time it all comes back and is much better. The last time I did my upper lip and that was the worst pain of all the places on the face. But it did its job and was so much better afterwards. So hang in there as it is doing a good for your skin in the end. And don't look in the mirror if you can avoid it as that helped me mentally...I envisioned myself as before the process started and I made it through each day.
