Mohs procedure for basal cell carcinoma in the extreme elderly

My 92 year old mother has a basal cell carcinoma on her lower shin. The doctor recommends Mohs (it's what he does) but I have second thoughts due to mom's age and the fact that the carcinoma is on her lower leg. Might it be safer to just leave it alone?

  1. Thank you for reaching out. While we cannot offer medical advice, I would suggest getting another medical opinion if you feel that course of acting is not the best for her. We always want the best for our loved ones. Sometimes understanding what is best to do in these cases is difficult. Please keep us updated on what you end up doing. Hoping for a great outcome for all of you. Scott skincancer.net moderator
