Awful Oozing and Weeping

I am a new user of Efudex and my reaction, compared to reading other users' experiences, was pretty normal. I took myself to see my GP about 3 weeks into the treatment. She took one look at my chest and told me to stop the treatment and prescribed me a steroid and antibiotic cream to “calm it down.”
The cream did not really help, so I stopped using it after about 5 days, but I now seem to be stuck with a very tight, crusty chest that oozes at night. This has been going on for about a week now and is getting me down as, each day, it doesn't seem to be improving.
Has anyone else got stuck at this stage? I have also read that the treatment should be continued even when this stage is reached. I am very confused.

  1. Hi . Have you considered getting a second opinion from a dermatologist? We are not medical experts, so I'm not sure whether you should have continued with treatment, but it does sound like you were progressing normally. However, it might also have been time to stop. There is no one timeline for Efudex treatment because everyone responds differently.
It's always possible thought that your doctor has never seen all the stages of Efudex treatment and panic. Here is an article about Efudex and the chst that includes a section about healing: https://skincancer.net/life-with-skin-cancer/efudex-cold-hard-truth. I hope this helps and you begin to make progress toward healing soon. Thinkng of you. - Lori (Team Member)

  2. Hi Lori.

    Thanks for your reply.
I'm pleased to report skin has finished crusting and oozing and is now soft and a much healthier pink which is the final stage.

I very much appreciate your advice though - thank you.
